Coming back from that well deserved summer vacation we got immediately blown away by this, how can we describe, furious necro misanthropic death doom black sludge metal album from Maudissez. Maudissez (Curse) was originally self released digitally on tape and digital in December 2023. The Californian Sentient Ruin Laboratories label (giving also shelter to inordinate acts like Uranium, Hexerei, Cryptea and Sutekh Hexen & Funerary Call) re-released this mind bending album on vinyl now.
There is almost no information to be found about this extreme French metal band from around Paris, band members and bio are unknown. Cloaked in mystery, Maudissez manages to open the eyes of the fans of extreme metal music with their debut album. Maudissez was secretly recorded live in a church in France somewhere in 2023. Their hate against the organised Christian clergy results in a tsunami of blasphemous sound desecrations filled with extreme emotions.
There is so much to discover in this heretic curse which goes eventually beyond darkness. In fact this band seeks its way through an experimental sound palette with heavy riffs, a lot of distortion which flirts with noise metal, spoken sample fragments, deep growling and unearthly screeching vocals (like Wormrot but in French). Maudissez succeeds to create gut-wrenching and murky atmospheres without losing any grip on their goal: vomiting an everlasting nihilism from a blackened misanthropic void.
Maudissez became an utmost freaking sonic adventure which shows no mercy with their putrefied outbursts. Nightmares guaranteed after swallowing this outstanding and encompassing auditory torture machine. Maudissez is a highly recommended album for fans of Anaal Nathrakh, Gnaw Their Tongues and Demilich. We still wonder if they actually filmed this demonic footage …
