This excellent EP is the band’s first new material since 2018’s Future Ruins, and these four songs will delight fans new and old.
The opener ‘Pack Yr Vision’ contains the group’s trademark swoops and swirls of guitar, packed in heavenly swatches of technicolor glory. ‘Volume Control’ is most like their older material, lean and muscular riffs exploding in your mind even while the lovely main melody ensnares you. Adam Franklin and Jim Hartidge mesh their fretwork together seamlessly, ushering in motes of Jimi and the twin attack of Television.
‘The World’s Fair’ is both wondrous and uneasy, with excellent keyboards accompanying the psychedelic maelstrom of guitars, bass, and drums. The vocals are subdued and this tune almost verges on an instrumental. Curious and very cool! The final ‘Time Attacks’ is an earworm built on complex melodic structures, and a fine way to close out this EP. Highly recommended!
