Golden Fable Tour Blog
This October we were very kindly asked by the wonderful Field Music to accompany them on their tour of the UK. Here is a brief insight into what we got up to whilst on the road. The Golden Fable touring team consisted of Tim, Rebecca, Jack our lovely drummer and Jonny our brill sound engineer.
Day One.
After much rehearsing and preparation we were finally ready to set off. The first date was in Aberdeen, which is fair old drive from North Wales! The journey was nicely broken up however by a stop at the famous Tebay services – the highlight of bands touring since 1972 (https://www.westmorland.com/tebay-services).
After meeting the lovely chaps from Field Music for the first time on arrival, we started the usual load in and sound check shenanigans. We hugely enjoyed playing our first night of the tour, and were thrilled to bits with the responses we received from the Aberdeen crowd. A very friendly bunch indeed.
Here’s Field Music from the side of the stage:

Straight away we were hooked by their addictive and catchy riffs. It was a real pleasure to watch them perform every night.
After the show in Aberdeen we made our way to the first of many tour Travelodges, this one in Dundee.
Day Two.
Here’s band life in a Travelodge at its best:
That night we played at Oran Mor in Glasgow – a truly beautiful venue that is well worth a visit.
The dressing room at this particular establishment prompted some amusing photo opportunities:
Again we had a brill time on stage. Here we are in action:
Day Three.
After staying in Carlisle the previous evening we set off for the next destination – Leeds. On route we stopped off for some much needed refreshments in a lovely little farm shop in a rural setting. There was great excitement, as we spotted a llama and a camel (if only we had photo evidence!). That night we played at the Cockpit. Here we are in sound check:
And later during our set:
Day Four.
From Leeds to Liverpool. This gig took place at The Kazimier which is a brilliantly quirky little venue. Before sound check we popped into the delightful Mello Mello just down the road for a bite to eat and a good old cuppa. Here are a few pictures of our performance that evening, taken by Marie Hazelwood.
We had a great reception in Liverpool and really enjoyed playing. The layout of the venue meant watching Field Music from above afterwards was a real treat:
After Liverpool we had a few days off before the next run of dates. We made sure we made the most of the time we had, and got stuck into some recording for a radio session:
After some more rehearsals and tweaking of the live set, we were ready for tour part two. First stop, the Electric Ballroom in London.
Day Five.
After negotiating the harrowing one way systems of Camden, we arrived at the venue. Sound check was a wonderfully relaxed affair and we were treated very well indeed.
After setting up the merch display and putting on our costumes it was time to play. This was the biggest audience of the tour, and we loved every minute of being on stage.
We had some very lovely comments from people after the show, so there were smiles all round. Field Music were truly brilliant, as always.
Day Six.
Tonight’s venue was The Haunt in Brighton. Before the show we had an explore around the colourful Laines:
This included a mandatory trip to Resident, where we purchased some treats for our ears. We also spotted this!
The Brighton show that evening was very enjoyable indeed.
Day Seven.
From Brighton to Bath! After a slightly too long car journey, we arrived at The Komedia. This venue used to be cinema, and has gradually been turned into a beautiful venue adorned with red velvet. On arrival we were treated to some gourmet sandwiches, which went down very well. All in all we had a fantastic time in Bath – the audience were particularly lovely after our set. Some backstage chilling:
Day Eight.
Sadly this was the last date we were to do with Field Music. The show was at Warwick Arts Centre in Coventry. Throughout the evening we had much fun scampering around the backstage passages (and at some points getting very lost). This gig took place in a seated theatre, so had a different, more intimate atmosphere to previous nights.
After watching Field Music perform for the final time, we gathered for an end of tour photo:
We were very sad indeed to be parting ways with these chaps – they truly are such a friendly and accommodating bunch. We very much hope we can share a stage with them again in the future. A huge thank you to them for having us!
Day Nine.
The last day of the tour took us to Swn festival, which takes place in Cardiff. Before the gig we popped over to Music Box Studios to do an acoustic session for Bethan Elfyn at Amazing Radio. Then we headed over to Chapter Arts Centre.
Here’s a picture of us performing:
Many thanks to everyone involved at Swn for having us – we had a brilliant time and were very well looked after. It was a real privilege to be part of such a vibrant welsh festival.
It was then time for the drive back to North Wales. All in all we had a truly fantastic time, and are very sad that it’s over! Many thanks to Field Music, all the promoters involved and all the lovely folks who came to see us.
