Through Dusk, Came The Light by The Sun Burns Bright

The Sun Burns Bright is the solo project of Chris Garr, a solo post rock project coming from Birmingham, UK. We already had the chance to premiere the track ‘Home Is Not A Place, It’s A Person’ and now follows the review for his debut album Through Dusk, Came The Light. It was released on January 23rd. It contains 8 tracks that will take you on an incredible journey. Nice buildups, reverb for days and amazing explosions. Jason Sissoyev (Coastlands) produced, mixed, mastered and added additional instrumentation, with the incredible drum work from Richard Keefer (Coastlands).
When I first started listening to the album I didn’t realize this was a solo project and I was just blown away with the wall of sound Chris is able to create. I could just mentally visualize this at Dunk Festival. The songs seem familiar to the ear, but still fresh and creative in the arrangements. It has a good portion of ambient swells in there to make you dream away.
Like for example the start of ‘Footprints’, there’s a nice sea of reverb to drown in. However there will be breaks that catch you by surprise as with ‘Forward We Move, Upward We Climb’ it breaks the song up nicely and builds it up later.
I’ve listened to the album for several weeks: in the car, whilst driving, at work and I can’t say how amazed I am by Chris his writing skills as for example the layering of strumming during ‘You Can’t See The Forest For The Trees’ creates a lovely explosion that keeps you on edge of your seat After that you get dropped in a dreamy guitar that will make you think of TWDY.
After playing the album on repeat I can’t say anything bad about it. It’s an achievement to be proud of and I’m looking forward to hearing more of The Sun Burns Bright.
