(((O))) LIVE
Festival Preview: Bear Stone Festival 2026
Bear Stone 2026 is back on the banks of the Mrežnica River in Croatia with Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats, Altin Gün, Elder, Nightstalker, and more. A psychedelic, stoner, doom-heavy weekend of river-side sets, off-grid vibes, and serious underground discoveries.
Airbourne bound onto stage shortly following Brad Fiedel’s main theme from Terminator II . . . But as soon as the insanely catchy football-chant intro of ‘Ready to Rock’ strikes, and the crowd goes all World Cup on us, it’s clear there will be no time for dystopia or time travel paradoxes this evening, just mindless, upbeat hedonism.
The sense of a special event is enhanced with ‘Moon Above, Sun Below’ . . . The Pale Communion track is one of the band’s most complex, and until this week, had never been performed live . . . the drum ‘n’ bass ‘n’ organ break is thrilling, and as the band crash in, one of Opeth’s most transcendent studio moments is electrifyingly recreated.
Tatty Seaside Town, AKA Papa C, AKA Colin Wakefield has been at the heart of the Brighton DIY music scene for well over a decade . . . This, his second all-dayer of the year, has been entitled ‘Friends & Favourites’ and it’s easy to see why. Regulars, familiar faces, and leading lights of the British underground are all in attendance.
Bruce Cowie does Damnation 2017, watches Big Business do the business, discovers that Myrkur are more like peanut butter than Marmite, and wonders why pasties cost more in the evening. . . Oh, and did he mention Wren?
Throughout the set, although there was so much going on both physically and sonically, I felt as though the band created space in their music. Leaving room to add even more layers, if they wanted.
Headliners Abhorrent Decimation seem to have gone from strength to strength. . . The new line up, crammed into the small Star & Garter stage power through a brutal set that gives an extra edge to the new material.
Get ready everyone, Black Moth are back! Stocked up with riffs of massive raise-the-horns destruction. . . With the imminent release of their upcoming Anatomical Venus album they showcase an exciting new heavier sound for their ‘Moonbow’ single release at London’s Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen.
Weeping Wastelands’ is a blackened masterpiece that demonstrates the sheer ferocity of Sean Harmanis’ vocals. . . this is a stunning band, very much in top form. . .
Vulture Industries are a fucking incredible live band, and seeing them live without any expectations is an experience in of itself… Even with this, my third time seeing them live, it’s no less surreal.
It’s somewhat difficult to sum up three days packed with music, of course, everyone has different highlights and what’s probably more important, new and interesting bands to explore. The only downside being that it is impossible to see everything!
All their albums make for difficult and interesting listening, but live this is a serious force. One that fulfils every promise that that uneasy listening promises, and then some. Be very careful and suitably prepared before stepping into Mutation’s world.
Sometimes I forget that I like death metal, but it’s nights like this one – the night you’re currently reading about – that remind me why I love death metal.
To see Tycho live is not just a way to witness a perfectly programmed and performed set: it is also an occasion to give new meaning to the songs, and experience the perfect immersive atmosphere in which to fully understand and enjoy them.
