In the Jaws of Bereavement by Maul

Release date: October 4, 2024
Label: 20 Buck Spin

Maul is not only the name of a fine winemaker in Hungary. There is also an American (Fargo, North Dakota) death metal band operating under this name. Maul has been active since 2017 and working hard releasing several demos, splits, singles and some EPs. In 2022 they could finally set their debut album Seraphic Punishment free. In the Jaws of Bereavement is their next death metal attack and honestly this album slices by the first listening session our eardrums to pieces.

The title song vomits like an erupting volcano with deathcore guest vocalist Vincent Bennett (The Acacia Strain) featuring as the main grunter. Maul produces with In the Jaws of Bereavement a skull crushing wall of death metal fused with shards of grindcore, doom and hardcore. Vocalist Garrett Alvarado’s powerful voice utters an immense brutality supported by the relentless guitar riffs produced by Anthony Lamb, Alex Nikolas and Josh Sanborn.

Maul manages to create diversity in their songs with melodic and refreshing guitar solos, unexpected breaks and the voice adds of bass player Mike Griggs. Robby Anderson hits the drums without any mercy and densifies this death metal sound object Maul is unchaining.

In the Jaws of Bereavement is an uncompromising album, heavy as hell, and punching our sweet angels straight into the face. Recommended for fans wandering around in the extreme metal worlds of Wormrot, Venenum, Bohemist and Bölzer.
