Lucifer’s Dungeon was founded in 2008 by Cain Black in Thailand, where he lived from 2006 to 2010. Originally it was planned that it would be a one man band called Dark Cellar. In 2009, a demo was recorded, but it was lost. In 2010, after returning to Russia, Cain Black continued to write music and lyrics and later in 2014, he recruited Cerberus (drums) and Iscariot (concert bass player) from the group First Martyr. The band has played a couple of concerts in between 2014 to 2017.
Debut album, The Dark Army Raises, was recorded on February 03, 2017. At the end of February 2017, Cerberus left the project due to his health, and Iscariot switched to solo guitar (concerts). Goth Ghost switched to bass, Denis Goncharov (Gromm) became the drummer.
The debut album is devoted to personal moments of life, as well as to the world and society. Some texts use many metaphors and personifications, but everything is cleared in plain text. The Dark Army Raises consists of both full ambient music and classic black metal tracks, in some songs these two genres are combined. The album was written between 2008 and 2014.
The band comments about the album: “Work on the black metal project began back in 2008 when the first songs (the forest, the dark army raises) were written in a state of depression. As project Dark Cellar. Later changed name. By the way at that time band did not know about black metal as a genre. And everything was written as heavy metal. And musician learned about black metal from a friend about the same year when he heard WHAT he was playing. Track ‘Burn Your Dogma’ – about brainwashing and some kind of hypnosis, turning off the brains of believers in Christ; Well, about the destruction of this hypnosis. Destruction – written the next morning after the night when he did not die. And it is devoted to the reason why it happened. Ambient were written in a state of depression and loneliness .. “my eyes” about the fatigue of certain elements of life and the search for freedom. That album consists of 2 ideas: 1. Personal depressive moments of life, and 2. Against brainwashing by churchmen. And about the path to knowledge. In general, Gnosticism.”
